Rodriguez, Astros shut out Reds, 4-0

Houston southpaw continues to improve

 

 

Houston Astros hats & merchandise Houston’s Wandy Rodriguez turned in a fine outing on Sunday, as he surrendered just one hit over seven shutout innings to highlight his club’s 4-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

The Astros (40-58) took a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second on Hunter Pence’s 15 th homer of the season.

Cincinnati starter Mike Leake, who suffered just his second loss of the year, turned in a great performance as well. Leake held the Houston lead at 1-0 through six, but the Reds chased him from the game by plating three in the frame. He allowed four runs—all earned—on seven hits in his 6.1 innings of work.

Houston’s offensive output was highlighted by the 3-for-4 effort of leadoff man Michael Bourn.

Cincinnati first baseman Joey Votto collected two of his team’s three hits.

Rodriguez improved to 8-11 for the Astros. Brandon Lyon and Matt Lindstrom each allowed just a single hit in their inning of relief.
