Santana, Mets shut out Reds, 3-0

New York evens its series with Cincinnati

Cincinnati Reds hats & apparel The Mets’ Johan Santana had struggled in his recent starts, but he brought his A-stuff on Tuesday night.

Santana, who improved to 6-5 with the victory, delivered a three-hit, complete game shut out to lead New York to a 3-0 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds.

Cincy starter Matt Maloney pitched well, as he allowed just three runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings. Relievers Logan Ondrusek and Bill Bray didn’t allow a hit in the last 2.1 innings.

However, it went for naught, as Santana was on cruise control for most of the night.

In addition to his stellar performance on the bump, the Mets’ hurler homered for the first time in his career.

New York leadoff man Jose Reyes went 2-for-4 and was the game’s only player to collect multiple hits.

The teams will engage in the rubber match tonight at Citi Field.
