Todd Helton heads to 15-Day DL
The Rockies placed first baseman Todd Helton on the 15-Day DL before yesterday’s (July 7, 2010) game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Helton, 36, has been out the past three games with a slightly pulled hamstring and a sore back, which he hurt in a game last week. Helton, according to the Denver Post will receive injections to relieve the pain from his hamstring with three days following of minimal activity. To take his spot the Rockies called up first baseman Brad Eldred to take Helton’s spot on the 25-man roster. Eldred earlier this season was signed to a minor league contract and he hit 22 home runs, and 64 RBIs this season at Triple-A Colorado Springs. In yesterday’s game he started at first and was 3 for 4 in the Rockies 8-7 win over the Cardinals.
