The Rockies Take the Series From the Pirates

On Friday the Rockies started a series with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Who swept the Rockies the previous weekend. Brett Anderson gave Colorado a great start going 6 2/3 and no runs. The offense heated up and scored 8 runs behind Anderson. The Rockies won 8-1.

Nolan Arenado was benched after the second inning for not running down the fast base line fast enough. He was seen as not putting in enough effort and with the Rockies struggles they could use as much effort as they can get.

Nolan Arenado bounced back from a benching with three hits, including a home run, to help the Colorado Rockies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-1 on Saturday night.

Tyler Matzek pitched three-hit ball over seven scoreless innings. Drew Stubbs and Corey Dickerson also homered for the Rockies, who won three straight.

The Pirates beat the Colorado Rockies 7-5 on Sunday. Pittsburgh starter Edison Volquez has struggled against Colorado and at Coors Field. The numbers in Denver are pretty bad where he was 1-5 with a 8.45 ERA in eight career starts.

Rockies starter Franklin Morales didn't fare any better. He labored through four-plus innings, allowing two runs on six hits and walking five. Arenado tied it 5-5 with a homer in the seventh, his ninth of the year and second in as many games before Harrison and Polanco struck in the eighth off reliever Rex Brothers (3-5).
