Mets Sign Jacobs to Minor League DealSports Illustrated’s Jon Heyman reports that 1B Mike Jacobs signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets. If Jacobs makes it with the big club he stands to make $900,000 in base salary plus an additional $1.15 million in incentives for a possible total of $2.05 million. Jacobs, 29, will compete with David Murphy and Fernando Tatis for playing time. In 2009 with the Kansas City Royals, Jacobs hit .228/.297/.401 while clubbing 19 homeruns and knocking in 61 RBIs. Jacobs brings his anemic .313 career OBP back to Flushing where he was drafted by the Mets in the 38 th round in the 1999 amateur draft.
